Sándor Bálint memorial

Sándor Bálint (1904-1980), the most authentic citizen of Szeged, was born to a paprika cultivating family and dedicated his life to conducting research on Szeged and on folk religiosity. As a devout Catholic he was slandered during the Communist times, but he kept his faith. 'What is our fate, what is our future? It possibly cannot be anything else than the bloodless martyrdom of Saint John the Evangelist, who does not debate, ... but being quiet and smiling ... does not want to convince, to convert, but to love, and so be in God.'
